MORPHE COSMETICS BACKGROUNDER
How Morphe Came to be and How The Company is Moving Forward
Morphe Cosmetics
Before Morphe was a multi-billion-dollar company, it originated as a small makeup brush e-commerce store that specifically only sold makeup brushes and makeup brush sets. When siblings Linda and Chris Tawil started the company in 2008, they had no idea it would grow as rapidly as it did. The siblings wanted to emphasize that this makeup company was different than others out there. With the mission to “Blend the Rules” the two made sure the products were affordable, high quality and available for everyone. They made sure not to emphasize campaigns directed to a certain age, race or gender so everyone who was curious about experimenting makeup, had the opportunity to without being any form of judgement.
After opening the first store in Burbank, California it only took a matter of a few years for Morphe stores to open up around the nation. Now, over 30 stores are located across the United States. In 2017, one of the biggest makeup retail stores, Ulta Beauty began selling Morphe products in their stores all over the world. It is almost impossible to not find a way to get hands on a favorite Morphe product.
Since expanding from brushes, the company sells a wide variety of products to complete any type of look. Although the company is known for their high pigment eyeshadow palettes, one can also find beautiful natural colored eye and lip shades in their collections. In stores and online it is evident that Morphe loves their beauty influencers and their beauty influencers love the company as well. Morphe is notorious for creating game-changing collaborations with popular beauty gurus such as Jaclyn Hill and Bretman Rock. These collaborations inspire people of all ages to try their amazing, high-quality products.
How Morphe Deals With Real-Life Issues
No one thought that 2020 would consist of a life-changing global pandemic, known as Coronavirus. This virus not only shut down all of Morphe’s stores, but the company made numerous changes including minimal staffing in warehouses and consistent cleaning to maintain safe from the virus. Most people do not feel the urge to put on a full face of glam while in quarantine, so it was time for the company to get creative. Right before stay at home orders were put into place, Morphe launched their “Backstage With Saweetie” collaboration with hip-hop superstar, Saweetie. This palette was inspired by the popular indie festival Coachella, that normally takes place in April. Since the virus postponed the festival, most makeup lovers questioned how they could use the items in this launch to their full advantage. Morphe encouraged their audience to show off their favorite festival looks on social media and to tag them, using the hashtag #MorpheBabe to be featured on the company’s social media pages.
The Ultimate Artist Pass: Saweetie
Morphe is known for collaborating with the best beauty influencers of this generation, so when they announced they were releasing a collaboration with a musician it was something different for the beauty community. Saweetie embodies everything that Morphe preaches, authenticity, confidence and an overall boss babe. She is not afraid to stand out with her iconic show-stopping outfits and never seen without her “icy” chain. Graduating from the University of Southern California, she is a hustling business woman who has the drive to create a boujee lifestyle for herself. Saweetie is a beautiful and an inspiring role model, while serving the best looks. Her vibrant attitude and style match perfectly with the color schemes of the “Backstage with Saweetie” collection. According to Morphe, “the festival-inspired collection showcases the star’s “Icy Girl” mantra that is all about embracing your sexuality and feeling confident.” All products in the collection are perfect for a go-to festival look but also provide neutral shades to wear every day.
